Greater Manchester English Schools Championships

After 18 months without a Schools Championships within Greater Manchester, the event was finally back on and took place at Oldham Hulme Grammar School on Sunday 29th, November.

The event wouldn’t have taken place if it wasn’t for the tremendous support I had received over recent weeks from Rosy Mills who Volunteered to take over the role of Greater Manchester County Secretary and Angus Hurst from Oldham Hulme Grammar School who helped us to locate a superb facility with fantastic tables kindly loaned via Hollinwood Table Tennis Club.

The event was played in a competitive and friendly environment, with all players thoroughly enjoying the competition on the day. The U16 Boys Team Event was very exciting with close matches being fought throughout the day. Altrincham Boys Grammar School were victorius in their semi-final match against St James CE School, Bolton with a very closely fought match going through 10-8 on games aggregate after a 2-2 scoreline. They then went on to play Parrs Wood High School in the final, but came up short against a fomidable aspiring young team, who are coached locally by David Hulme and attend Stockport Table Tennis Academy.
