Sonali Gardens Centre Getting Active with Table Tennis

Sonali Gardens Older People’s Centre in Tower Hamlets has been delighted to receive its brand new Butterfly table as part of plans to increase participation within the borough, which is a priority zone for Table Tennis England.

The enthusiasm and competitiveness of their Wednesday morning sessions is fantastic and has shown the positive difference that having a table has on the community. It is also available for free play during the rest of the week.

Sonali Gardens runs Link Age Plus, which works with a number of vulnerable and isolated older people within the borough, ensuring that they have a variety of activities to take part in to help them socialise and increase their wellbeing. Activities include dance, health promotion, IT classes and welfare advice sessions, with the table tennis activity building upon their exercise offers.

The table has been provided as part of a project that is aiming to increase adult participation in Tower Hamlets, with Table Tennis England supporting community centres to invest in their own tables, and encouraging a full range of community groups to enjoy playing the sport. Several community centres within the borough have secured tables so far.
