Coach Education day

The Eastern region will be running a Coach Education day on Sunday 11th September at BATTS Table Tennis Club in Harlow. Regional Coach Stephen Gertsen is planning the day and would welcome input from coaches around the region so that topics covered meet coaches needs. The day is also a great opportunity for coaches to discuss and bounce ideas off each other.

For further information please contact East Region Coach:         stephen.gertsen@etta.co.uk

National Junior League / National Cadet League

Entry forms for the above events are now available. The venues have changed for this year with NJL scheduled to take place at the Wensum Club, Norwich and NCL scheduled for NETTS, Earls Colne.  The local organiser for these events this year is Regional Chairman, Brian Davison. A significant change this year with regard to Player licences. Where previously all players needed a licence, either for the year or a day licence, now at least 3 players need to be licenced with reserve players only requiring ETTA membership. The guidance states if a ranking list shows fewer than three licenced players then day licences will be required.

NCL dates for this season are: Sunday 16th October 2011, Sunday 11th December 2011, Sunday 5th February 2012, Sunday 25th March 2012.

NJL dates for this season are: Saturdays – 5th November 2011, 26th November 2011, 28th January 2012, 3rd March 2012.

County Sports Partnerships

You may be aware of County Sports Partnerships, but it is always worth repeating that they are useful source of support and information and much more for individuals (Coaches) Clubs and Leagues. The following links take you to each CSP funding page but once there please also visit their home page. Most CSPs have an ezine you can sign up to and If you are a coach it is worth while registering on your relevant CSP Coach database. If you are having difficulty finding the coach database for your CSP please let me know and I will point you in the right direction.

The CSP Coach databases are designed to assist:-

  • Coaches looking for qualifications, training opportunities or employment
  • Coaches who want to be informed about local events and developments in coaching
  • Organisations looking for a suitable qualified and accredited coach

•Organisations looking to develop their own coaches

Coaching Course Funding via CSPs

It may be possible depending on which county you reside in to obtain some financial support towards your qualification. To assist I list below the relevant funding pages for each County Sport Partnership. There is also a specific coaching fund available in Great Yarmouth.

Norfolk (Norfolk list many funding opportunities which need to be studied to find a suitable fund)
Great Yarmouth

League/Club visits

Club or League within the region are available on request to discuss local development needs, just drop me an email to john.andrews@etta.co.uk or call me on 07958 462806 to arrange a suitable date and time.

For any clubs wish to develop and progress their club I would recommend that they work towards achieving Clubmark status. Clubmark would be one of items discussed at a Club/League meeting. The following two links provide information regarding Clubmark. For clubs going through the Clubmark process full support is given by the Development team both Regionally and Nationally.

If you wish to discuss clubmark and understand more about the scheme then please contact John Andrews on 07958 462806 or by email john.andrews@etta.co.uk.

About Clubmark

The Benefits of Clubmark Accreditation

The PremierClub programme is for all Table Tennis Clubs committed to development and to raising their standards. Clubs register on the programme and work to achieve the criteria at one of four levels, PremierCLUBMARK, Participation, Advanced and Excellence, as set out here. The criteria are cumulative, the programme at each level includes both the elements for that level and those for the levels below.

The PremierClub programme also includes ‘Ability’ an integrated programme of activities for players with disabilities and complementary volunteer training for club members and coaches. Clubs are offered help to prepare a club action plan to identify their particular key areas for future development related directly to the programme Criteria Tables at each level. PremierClub and Clubmark are linked within this programme.

If you wish to discuss PremierClub Programme and/or the Ability Programme to understand more about the schemes then please contact John Andrews on 07958 462806 or by email john.andrews@etta.co.uk.

Change for Life Clubs

Change4Life Sports Club’ (C4LSC) is a programme being run by Youth Sport Trust (YST) and Sport England (SE) in conjunction with the School Sport Partnerships (SSPs) and the ETTA who provide equipment including kit bags of bats, balls and nets. The aim is to develop a new ‘breed’ of fun focused clubs on School and College sites across England. The focus of these clubs will be to engage and increase participation among young people aged 13-19. Close to 800 clubs were registered across the country with 111 of those being in the East Region. The breakdown of clubs by county is Beds (12), Cambs (10), Essex (27), Herts (32), Norfolk (18), Suffolk (12).

My September newsletter will provide more information regarding Change for Life Clubs and how Table Tennis Clubs can engage with them to develop the players and also introduce them to competition such as NCL and NJL.

You may have seen a new button appear at the top of the ETTA website titled Spotlight. Like me you may have clicked the button and found nothing other than advice to use a different browser. I opted for Google Chrome and within a few minutes was looking at Spotlight. Spotlight provides the means to search for venues and events that are in your area. Enter your post code or town in the search box to see where to play or what events are taking place. A future development is to list coaches. This is a very important development to enable people to find suitable venues to play Table Tennis.
